Packers QB Jordan Love pledges to stop Josh Jacobs' unwanted record chase
The 2024 NFL season hasn't even started yet and quarterback Jordan Love is already setting his sights on helping new teammate Josh Jacobs. The running back may not be an optimal dual threat as others at his position, but he has made catches throughout his career. Those receptions haven't led to a touchdown though and he is on the brink of breaking a record he may not want.
Jacobs is the only active player to have at least 100 receptions and not record a receiving touchdown. Quarterback Jordan Love recently sat down for a Q&A with Bleacher Report and promised that he will help Jacobs avoid breaking Gerald Riggs' record of 201 receptions without a touchdown.
“No, that’s not going to happen. I definitely saw that the other day. I’m surprised he doesn’t have any touchdowns yet. Let’s see, it’s right here, 197 career receptions, zero receiving touchdowns. I sent that to him. (1:40)
"I said, ‘Bro, we’re going to get you a touchdown, for sure.’ First pass to him might be a touchdown, who knows? We’re gonna see. What is he, five receptions away from it? We’ll make sure he gets a touchdown in there.”
Jordan Love even went as far as to say that Josh Jacobs may be the first touchdown pass he throws in 2024.
Jordan Love declines contract question days after expressing his thoughts
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was at a youth football camp earlier this week and spoke to the media. When a question about a possible contract extension arose, Love declined to answer the question and moved on. This came just days after Love spoke about what it would mean to him to sign an extension during a Q&A with Bleacher Report.
During the Bleacher Report segment Love said:
"That would mean a lot to me. That would be awesome. To be able to sign an extension with the team that drafted you is something that all players dream of. Hopefully, that happens here in the future, but I'm excited for the upcoming season and what's in store for our team and to be able to solidify something long-term here in Green Bay."
Although Love is looking forward to staying with the Green Bay Packers long-term, he is remaining focused on building from the success the team found in 2023.
