Panthers coach drops massive hint on potential No. 1 overall pick at Ohio State's pro day
Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud could be the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. With the draft being a little over a month away, chatter of Stroud going number one overall has been gaining traction.
At his pro day at Ohio State on Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers, who hold the number one overall pick, were in attendance.
After his impressive workout, Stroud was greeted by the Panthers brass with quarterback coach Josh McCown hinting at potentially taking the quarterback with their pick.
McCown said:
"That was well bro, that was great, it was awesome..... Maybe when you live in Charlotte we'll find a court."
Perhaps McCown and Stroud were talking about shooting hoops and potentially playing a one-on-one game or a game of horse. Either way, the comments can definitely be taken directly and rumors of Stroud going first-overall will now intensify.
The Carolina Panthers were aggressive in trading up for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft
The Carolina Panthers have been busy making moves this off-season. After finishing the 2022-2023 season with a 7-10 record, the team earned the ninth-overall pick in the draft. They are one of several teams that are looking for a new franchise quarterback heading into the season.
Carolina knew that if they remained at pick No. 9, most of the top quarterbacks would be gone. As a result, they traded up eight picks to No. 1 overall with the Chicago Bears.
Carolina sent Chicago two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and wide receiver DJ Moore, and is now in prime position to take the first quarterback of their choice at pick No. 1.
While the team has said they would trade back to acquire more picks, it seems almost evident that the team will select Stroud to be their next franchise quarterback.
