Patrick Mahomes awestruck as 16yo Lamine Yamal makes history in Spain’s 2024 Euro semifinal vs France
Patrick Mahomes will have to return to training very soon but he is spending the last days of his free time watching Lamine Yamal make history in the Euros. In the semi-final between Spain and France, the 16-year-old youngster etched his name into the history books.
France was leading 1-0 in the game in the first half and looking dominant. Until Lamine Yamal got the ball, cut onto his left foot, and curled a goal into the top corner to bring Spain level. He became the youngest-ever goalscorer in men's Euros history and Patrick Mahomes was in awe of both the achievement and the shot. The quarterback wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter,
"Goal was insane!"
Game recognizes game as Patrick Mahomes praises Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal's age will be recorded at just 16 years and 362 days old and it was a glorious goal.
And it was not surprising to see Patrick Mahomes celebrating the teen becoming the youngest scorer in Euros history for the men's editions. After all, the quarterback knows how to break longstanding records at a young age and do so with panache.
The Chiefs player is the youngest quarterback to ever start in three AFC Championship games. Consider that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning also played in the AFC when they began their careers, and the strength of the Kansas City star's achievement becomes clear.
He is also the youngest player ever to win three championship MVP awards, having done so in the first seven seasons of his football career. Patrick Mahomes also holds the record for being the youngest player ever to win the MVP and the Super Bowl MVP awards in the same season. So, when he sees Lamine Yamal doing the things he is doing at a young age, he can certainly identify with that.
And the quarterback has made a name for just being efficient, but doing things spectacularly. His sidearm throws, his no-look passes, his disguised runs, and his ability to command broken play have made him eminently watchable. Therefore, for Patrick Mahomes, it is not just about getting the records but doing so in a way that is memorable.
Hence, when he saw Lamine Yamal's goal, one can understand his instinct to praise the quality of the play as much as the age of the budding soccer star. If the Spanish soccer sensation can achieve as much in his career as the Chiefs legend has done so far, he will make his country very happy.
