Patrick Mahomes injury update: Andy Reid confirms QB's status for AFC championship gameĀ

Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury in the first half of the AFC divisional game against the Jacksonville Jaguars but did return after halftime. The Kansas City Chiefs announced that the quarterback had suffered a high ankle sprain and no other serious damage was done to the ankle.

The Chiefs went on to defeat the Jaguars and advance to the AFC championship game for the fifth year in a row. As they prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, coach Andy Reid gave an update on his quarterback.

NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported on Friday that Reid confirmed that Mahomes will start Sunday in the title game and that he mobility has looked good this week in practice.

"He's moving around good," Andy Reid said, as tweeted by Cameron Wolfe..

This news is a welcome relief for Kansas City Chiefs fans as they face quarterback Joe Burrow, who is 3-0 against them. When Mahomes returned to the field last week, he was nearly hopping to avoid putting pressure on the ankle, but he told the media afterwards that he was definitely going to play.

Andy Reid has now confirmed what his quarterback said as the Chiefs try to break Burrow's undefeated record against them.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed that Patrick Mahomes will start the AFC Championship game this week. While Reid may have said that his quarterback was moving well on the field, there is some proof that his injury seems to be headed in the right direction.

NFL Network's James Palmer, who was at the Chiefs' practice on Friday, posted a video on Twitter of the quarterback throwing short passes. While it wasn't physically exerting, Mahomes was putting weight on his ankle, something he had trouble doing in last week's divisional-round game.

The Chiefs have been monitoring the quarterback's high ankle sprain throughout the week. It's no surprise to any NFL fan that Mahomes will suit up this weekend, especially since he put up a fight last week to continue playing in the first half last weekend.
