“Patrick Mahomes is a killer”: NFL insider stunned by 2024 Top 100 List

The final ten names in the NFL's Top 100 List for 2024 were published last week and there was one big surprise, to say the least. Patrick Mahomes, the conquerer of three Super Bowls in five years, the man you'd expect to see at the very top of this list, wasn't even in the top three.

Instead, the list had Mahomes at number four, behind Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Jackson, and Tyreek Hill. While all three names above Mahomes certainly racked up some elite numbers in 2023, with Hill even coming agonizingly close to breaking Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving record of 1,964 yards, it's safe to say that Mahomes' exploits were supreme.

More than a few people were stunned by Mahomes' spot in the NFL Top 100 List. NFL insider Peter Schrager was among those names. In an appearance on Good Morning Football on Monday, August 5, Schrager said:

“I know the NFL Network is trying to get some clicks and trying to make some ratings. I get the game. What are we talking about here? Patrick Mahomes is the greatest player in the NFL. He’s been the greatest player in the NFL. There’s no reason to even do this list anymore. Just put Mahomes #1, I don’t care when it was recorded, when it was done, when it was voted on.
"Mahomes is a killer and this is only gonna give him more motivation."

Perhaps the only blemish you could assign to Mahomes' stats last season is that they flirted with his career-low numbers in 2019. This past season, Mahomes racked up 4,183 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. For context, MVP Lamar Jackson had 3,678 passing yards and 24 touchdowns.

Why Tyreek Hill surpassed Patrick Mahomes on NFL Top 100

At this point, it's important to note that this list is voted on by Mahomes' peers. And it's always a little flashier when a player approaches a historic record, which Hill was on pace to achieve had it not been for his late-season ankle injury.

Hill essentially showed that Megatron's record is not quite out of reach just yet. In any case, Hill also paid attention to what social media was saying about him beating Mahomes to the top spot in the list.

When Nick Wright pointed out that Mahomes beat all of Hill, Jackson and McCaffrey on the way to this third Super Bowl win, the Dolphins WR tweeted at Wright, saying "Go cry on set."
