Patrick Mahomes' MRI result reveals true extent of Chiefs QB's ankle injury
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury during the first half of the AFC Divisional round game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The quarterback was removed from the game in the first half and replaced by backup Chad Henne.
In the second half, he came running out onto the field to help the Chiefs defeat the Jaguars and earn a trip to the AFC title game next week. The KC quarterback looked as if he was in pain and was even throwing passes while hopping on one leg.
On Sunday morning, NFL insider Adam Schefter Tweeted that the Chiefs quarterback suffered a high ankle sprain. Schefter said that league sources told him that there wasn't any additional damage to the ankle, in terms of structure or broken bones. While a painful injury, it is a huge relief for the Kansas City Chiefs that this wasn't a more serious injury.

Adam Schefter also reported that Patrick Mahomes intends to start next weekend in the AFC Championship game. This won't come as a surprise to anyone, seeing as he tried to remain in the game during the first half, but was told otherwise.
Patrick Mahomes leads Chiefs to fifth straight AFC Championship game
At this point, it almost seems obvious that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be playing for the AFC Championship. After the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night, they will now play their fifth straight AFC Championship game. In the last four years, he has a 2-2 record in the title game, making back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 2020 and 2021.
After winning the Super Bowl in 2020 against the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs lost to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following year. Last season, the Chiefs were defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC title game.
Sunday's game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals will determine who Kansas City will face next weekend. It should be a tremendous watch.
