"F**k no": Patrick Mahomes refused to leave game when Andy Reid tried to bench QB during Week 9

The NFL uploaded a video clip on X on Nov. 7 which features Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid. The moment captured in the clip is from the Chiefs' Monday Night Football (MNF) game against the Buccaneers, which they won 30-24 in overtime.

The caption attached to the clip in the post read:

"There was no way @PatrickMahomes was coming out of the game."

The three-time Super Bowl-winning duo is seen having a candid conversation, with Coach Reid wanting to bench Mahomes. However, the 29-year-old refused to leave the field despite his coach’s instructions.

“Patrick, I’m gonna take you out,” said Reid, but Mahomes responded, “No. No. F**k no. Come on, man.”

Patrick Mahomes shrugs off his injury to clinch a thriller

The Chiefs were trailing 10-17 before the fourth quarter began. Mahomes suffered an injury right at the start, but still managed to score a touchdown through RB Samaje Perine. However, Mahomes landed awkwardly on his right leg and was helped off the field.

“It’s alright. It’s getting better. It rolled the other way when I went to plant,” he said while limping off.

Seeing his condition, HC Reid wanted to take him out, but Mahomes was adamant about staying in. Backup QB Carson Wentz didn’t even get a chance to warm up, as Mahomes returned to the field.

Reid didn’t argue further, trusting his quarterback completely. Mahomes repaid that trust with another touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins, giving the Chiefs a 24-17 lead. Ultimately, Mahomes led the team to victory with a late touchdown from Kareem Hunt, though concerns remain about his injury.

Patrick Mahomes gives update on his ankle-injury scare

In a post-game interview, Mahomes explained his injury to the media.

“I was obviously running for the goal line, kind of had committed to running the football, and at the last second, saw Samaje and so kind of awkwardly rolled the ankle a bit. Definitely scary, I think it hurt more just because it was the same ankle I rolled last week.”

In a follow-up interview on Wednesday, Mahomes told ESPN that his ankle is still a bit sore. He is able to move around and is looking forward to returning to practice. However, Coach Reid has held him out of practice to ensure he’s fit for their next game against Denver.
