Patrick Mahomes Sr. could face up to 10 years behind bars following felony DWI charge: report
Patrick Mahomes' father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was recently indicted on a felony charge and could face up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.
Texas prosecutors indicted him for a felony DUI. Mahomes Sr. was listed as "driving while intoxicated" for a third time or more after his recent arrest, which happened a week before the Super Bowl. He was hit with the charge last Thursday, according to Smith County Texas Courts.
On Feb. 3, Mahomes Sr. was pulled over during a routine traffic stop, and officers believed he showed signs of being impaired. He had an open 16-ounce Coors beer in his center console and admitted to having a few drinks before driving.
Mahomes Sr. had a second DWI charge in 2018. He's yet to publicly address the situation. Additionally, Mahomes Sr. could face a fine up to $10,000 for his actions.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. was once arrested at TCU game
This wasn’t the first time Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested. The former Texas Tech quarterback’s father was arrested during one of Mahomes’ college games on the charges of public intoxication. This incident took place during Mahomes’ college game against Texas Christian University (TCU).
It came to light after TCU’s defensive end Breckyn Hager told TV reporters that the Horned Frogs’ mission was to “injure that quarterback,” referring to Mahomes. But later on, TCU head coach Charlie Strong clarified the issue with a statement.
"I want to make one thing clear, We never walk into a game wanting to injure someone. We would never coach that way and that's not how our team plays."
The Texas Longhorns, TCU and Texas Tech share a long history of rivalry. Whether or not it was TCU’s plan to injure Patrick Mahomes, it did not sit well with the quarterback’s father.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. played in Major League Baseball for 11 seasons as a pitcher. He made his MLB debut for the Minnesota Twins in 1992. He was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 1996 after four seasons. He was released by the Red Sox in 1997.
Mahomes Sr. went on to play for the New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates, later on in his MLB Career.
