Patrick Mahomes' teammate disses Texans after laundry list of complaints accusing NFL referees of bias

The fallout from the Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs showdown continues into conference championship week. Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs and CJ Stroud's Texans squared off on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium in a divisional-round matchup that ultimately went the reigning Super Bowl champions' way. But that win did not come without its fair share of controversy.

That evening, the Texans were penalized eight times for 82 yards, while the Chiefs were penalized just four times for 29 yards. While that disparity was not the main point of contention, two roughing-the-passer calls against the Texans prompted an intense debate about what was perceived as an officiating bias against them.

In the aftermath of their divisional round faceoff, multiple members of the Texans organization made it clear that they felt they were on the receiving end of some egregious calls. Those complaints failed to move Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson, who took to social media to make his feelings clear on the situation.

"I miss when grown men took they losses like a man. A new day and age though...," Watson tweeted on Sunday.

Explaining the controversies during Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The two roughing-the-passer calls were the main subject of debate in the game. In the first quarter, on 3rd-and-8 in their own territory, Mahomes threw an incompletion to Travis Kelce. However, Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. was flagged for roughing the passer on that play, allowing the Chiefs to extend the drive.

The Chiefs did not stop to look the gift horse in the mouth. They converted a field goal early in the game to take a 6-3 lead.

Another call that prompted debate came in the third quarter when Mahomes tried to slide, making two Texans players clash into each other.

The Texans were flagged for unnecessary roughness since linebacker Henry To'oTo'o's helmet grazed the top of Mahomes' helmet while he was already on the ground. That drive ended with another classic Mahomes to Kelce touchdown, putting some daylight between them and the Texans.

In any case, the Chiefs will now turn their attention to the AFC championship game showdown against the Buffalo Bills. The last time these two teams met in Week 11, Josh Allen's Bills got the better of the Chiefs. However, the reigning Super Bowl champions did not have the services of RB Isiah Pacheco, WR Hollywood Brown, DE Charles Omenihu and CB Jaylen Watson, who were all on injured reserve.
