Patrick Mahomes’ teammate drops 3-word reaction to Chiefs shock trade for Josh Uche
The Kansas City Chiefs keep adding more talent to their roster with Josh Uche. On Monday, they landed the OLB from the New England Patriots to bolster their defense, which is already one of the strongest in the league. This move came after they landed DeAndre Hopkins, one of the most reliable wide receivers in the NFL, last week.
The Chiefs are having a terrific season record-wise, as they remain unbeaten after seven games and their recent moves only strengthen their case to become the first-ever franchise to win three straight Super Bowls.
Everybody had something to say about this move and one of his new teammates welcomed Uche with open arms. Charles Omenihu, who's playing his second season with the Chiefs, wrote a three-word message to welcome Uche.
"⏰⏰ welcome my boy !" he tweeted on Monday upon learning about this move.
The 2024 NFL trade deadline is set for Nov. 5 and several teams have made moves to try to boost their chances to challenge the Chiefs, the defending back-to-back champions. However, Kansas City has also made moves that keep it as a dangerous team. Despite losing stars like Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice, this team keeps finding ways to remain competitive.
Josh Uche didn't play in the Patriots' 25-22 win over the New York Jets in Week 8. He wasn't dealing with any injury, so the decision was made to protect him for this trade.
Patriots reporter Phil A. Perry explained that Uche wasn't the best fit in New England and the Chiefs would put him in a much better position to succeed.
"Tough fit in New England, where he was a designated pass-rusher. Stiff-upper-lipped it the last couple of seasons. Now with a team where he should see an uptick in obvious passing situations."
How did new Chiefs defender Josh Uche fare with the New England Patriots?
Josh Uche spent four seasons with the Patriots after being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In 58 games played, he recorded 20.5 sacks, including a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2022. This season, he posted 13 tackles in two sacks for a Patriots defense called 'soft' by first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.
The Chiefs beat the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20 on Sunday to extend their unbeaten run to seven wins. They are in a complex position on offense after losing several players to injuries, but their defense is getting stronger and Uche's addition could have a major impact on this unit.
