Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany sheds light on QB's unseen side as Chiefs' leader: "He would never blame anybody else"
Patrick Mahomes has cemented his place as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL, leading the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowls. Mahomes might even make history if the Chiefs win the third straight Super Bowl in the upcoming season.
There is a hidden, behind-the-scenes Mahomes most fans don't get to witness. Along with talent, NFL players spend hours working hard on reviewing their plays and analyzing the game itself.
In a podcast with WHOOP, Mahomes' wife Brittany discussed what goes unseen and how the star QB has been actively trying to become a better leader.
"Yeah, I think on the back end that people don't get to see is all the studying and all the dedication that he has, the amount that he studies and watches film and has meetings with the coaches is honestly insane to me, but just the discipline and I would say last season, I really saw a lot in who he is as a leader because I think that was probably the hardest season that they've had in his career," Brittany said. "Every week when they were losing it, he would never once blame it on anybody else. It was always like, 'What am I doing wrong? How can I be better as a leader? How can I make this team be better.' And so I think him just being the leader that he is, and having the dedication and discipline that he does behind closed doors is really what makes him great."
Brittany added that Mahomes didn't listen to criticism, focusing on himself and the team while finding ways to improve. She even joked about losing her husband to football and how she focused on supporting him.
Patrick Mahomes helped wife Brittany block out all negativity
As mentioned, Brittany said Patrick Mahomes wasn't bothered by the criticism the team received last year. He focused on himself, increasing the hours he'd study to get better.
However, Mahomes helped Brittany block out all negative feedback. Constantly in the midst of being trolled, Brittany said her husband's advice helped.
"He always told me is like 'stop caring about what people think especially the people that don't even know you.'"
According to Brittany, she doesn't bother with what people say anymore.
