Patriots HC Jerod Mayo remains confident of team's future despite Brandon Aiyuk trade failure

Brandon Aiyuk's future has been in discussion throughout the offseason. As the 49ers agreed to the wide receiver’s trade request, they had multiple suitors at their door. However, Aiyuk’s refusal to join the Patriots has shocked the entire system at Foxborough.

Last week, Matt Maiocco reported that the 49ers star has refused to join the Patriots despite a “large offer” waiting for him.

Amid this, New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo didn’t mince his words to 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Alex Barth. Mayo conveyed the need to change and rebuild things before they can attract top talent.

“When we start to win games, guys will want to come here. When we establish the culture, the roster, guys will be excited,” Mayo said.

Mayo’s assessment was on point, as several reports have suggested that the lack of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick is a thorn in the Patriots’ recruiting process. Still, he remains optimistic that things will change as their performances improve on the field.

NFL analyst compares Patriots to Chicago Bulls in post-Tom Brady era

On FS1’s "The Herd," Colin Cowherd pointed out that the Patriots have always been poor at signing star wide receivers like Brandon Aiyuk, with mentions of Tom Brady and Michael Jordan.

"To me, the Patriots are becoming the Chicago Bulls post-Jordan,” Cowherd said.
“It's not just that the Bulls couldn't win. They went from totally cool to the most uncool franchise in the league. That's what the Patriots had become with Brady. Brady was so great. He made you forget how badly the Patriots drafted the offensive side of the ball.”

Brandon Aiyuk has still not finalized his next destination. However, as per rumors, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the best shot, and it's only a matter of time before the deal is finalized.
