Patriots Pro Bowl LB Matthew Judon pondering career in politics

Four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Matthew Judon will enter the 2024 NFL season on the last year of his expiring contract with the New England Patriots. The team resigned their key roster pieces this offseason as they look to rebuild.

Runnning back Rhamondre Stevenson, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, safety Kyle Dugger, and defensive tackle Christian Barmore, are among the players who secured a long-term deal. But veteran Judon's future in Foxborough still lies in a dilemma.

The two parties, Judon and the Patriots have been in commmunication about an extension. But as things stand, there is no long-term deal on the table. Judon, took to X (formerly Twitter), using this time to ponder over his life after football. The Patriots linebacker expressed his intersest in politics and asked the fans if they would vote for him, if he was runnning.

"Yall after football if I run for House of Representatives or senate. Would you guys vote for me?" Judon wrote.

Matathew Judon shuts down report about Patriots contract drama

Last week, Fox Sports' Henry McKenna reported that Matthew Judon had asked for a new contract and the New England Patriots offered one. But the two parties are "not currently close" to aggreating on a long-term extension.

Patriots insider Greg Bedard said on his podcast "Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast," on Saturday, that Judon will not be playing under his current contract:

“But what I can tell you is from the people that I’ve talked to, he is not going to play under his current contract. At least for the Patriots. I can’t talk about any place else. That’s my understanding. I don’t know exactly what’s been communicated to the team, but that’s my understanding.”

Judon, who is known for his active presence on social media, has been keeping an eye amid his contract drama with the team. Just a few hours after the episode's release, Judon was quick to squash the report on X.

"Before yall get on my [expletive] I didn’t say that. At all don’t let them make me the villain," Judon posted.

Matthew Judon is entering the final year of his four-year, $54.5 deal. If he and the New England Patriots fail to agree on a contract extension, the 4x Pro Bowler will hit the open market in 2025. Last year, the two parties renegotiated a deal to increase his contract guarantees from $2 million to $14 million. Judon is guaranteed $6.5 million this year.

Ideally, Judon would want a new deal before the season begins. The Patriots training camp starts on July 24. Keep an eye on Judon's presence at the camp.
