Patriots rookie Javon Baker reveals surviving a car accident before Cardinals game
New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Javon Baker didn't play in the Week 15 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Earlier in the week, the former fourth-round draft pick out of UCF was placed on the injured list with a concussion.
This news was a shock as the New England Patriots were coming off a bye week and when and where he suffered a concussion was unknown.
On Wednesday afternoon, Doug Kyed, who covers the New England Patriots for the Boston Herald, reported that Javon Baker told him that he had a very serious car accident. It was this that caused the concussion.
Baker told Kyed how it could have been much worse and that he was 'blessed' it was just a concussion.
"Patriots rookie WR Javon Baker tells me he suffered his concussion last week in a bad car accident and that he feels 'blessed' to have only walked out of it with a concussion. He's now feeling good."
Baker is currently in the NFL's concussion protocols and will need to be medically cleared before he is allowed to return to the field. The New England Patriots will face the Buffalo Bills this week in Orchard Park, New York, and it remains unclear if the rookie wide receiver will be ready to go.
Former Patriots QB gave his take on lack of production for Javon Baker and other rookies
The New England Patriots drafted wide receivers Javon Baker and Ja'Lynn Polk in the 2024 NFL Draft. Baker and Lynn were expected to be additional weapons for rookie quarterback Drake Maye, yet, neither has seen much playing time.
Former New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer gave his thoughts on "The Quick Snap" podcast. He said that the rookie wide receivers aren't getting playing time or opportunities because they haven't proven themselves on the field.
“You got to evaluate these players a little bit too, but it’s just one of those things, like you put them out there, and they don’t do what they’re supposed to do."-Brian Hoyer said on "The Quick Snap" podcast.
Lynn has played in 11 games, starting six for 12 catches for a total of 87 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately for Baker, he has seen even less playing time.
The New England Patriots wide receiver has played in seven games this season, starting just one. He is yet to record the first catch of his NFL career.
