“Silly things he used to get away with because of Brady” – 2x Super Bowl winner launches at Bill Belichick with NE still in post-Tom Brady spiral

The New England Patriots find themselves in a tough spot entering the 2023 NFL draft. With the team having once again missed the playoffs last season, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been in the firing line of fans and analysts alike.

Ever since the departure of Tom Brady, the Patriots have seen their dynasty fall and now find themselves potential outliers in the battle for the AFC East next season. That being said, Belichick still enjoys support from some who feel there's no one better for the Patriots job than him.

But even his staunchest supporters couldn't have predicted what was about to come. According to reports, the franchise tried to ship quarterback Mac Jones in the offseason.

This drew the ire of former Patriots star Asante Samuel. The cornerback was drafted by Belichick back in 2003 and won two Super Bowls during his stint in New England.

"The silly things he (Belichick) used to get away with because of Brady," Samuel wrote on Twitter while responding to a tweet from Robert Griffin III that claimed the Patriots tried to get rid of Jones.

Now retired, Samuel doesn't seem to be too fond of Belichick. The former All-Pro recently warned Lamar Jackson against considering a move to the Pats.

Lamar Jackson, my brother trust me you don’t want to play for Belichick

Belichick is known for his ruthless ways. Seeing the decline of Mac Jones since his impressive rookie campaign seems to have rung alarm bells.

Could the Patriots consider signing Lamar Jackson amid Mac Jones trade rumors?

If the trade rumors surrounding Mac Jones are true, then Coach Belichick will need some reinforcements in the quarterback room. Trading for Lamar Jackson could be the answer.

With the Ravens having placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, the QB is currently up for grabs. The tag allows the 2019 NFL MVP to negotiate with any team during the free agency period.

The Ravens, however, will get to match whatever offer their QB receives. The Pats have been named as a possible landing spot for Jackson over the course of the free agency window.

Belichick himself has showered praise on the mercurial dual-threat QB in the past. The Pats are still in search of a long-term replacement for Brady. While replacing the seven-time Super Bowl winner is no easy feat, Jackson could just be the talent the franchise need to steer them back to glory.
