Patriots unable to recruit talent without Tom Brady, Bill Belichick as pressure mounts on Jerod Mayo: Report

With Tom Brady and Bill Belichick gone, the Patriots have a problem. One of the most successful franchises in history is struggling to acquire meaningful talent. This issue has created substantial pressure on new coach Jerod Mayo.

It will be the fifth year the New England Patriots will take to the field without Brady and the first since Belichick parted ways. That's why bringing in fresh and needed talent this offseason has been challenging, per CBS Sports.

It was reported on Wednesday that Brandon Aiyuk wanted nothing to do with the Patriots, despite being offered a large sum of money. Before that, the former Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver ditched the Patriots in free agency to sign with the Tennessee Titans, per CBS Sports.

Despite having Belichick last season, the Patriots were unable to sign veteran WR DeAndre Hopkins, with no Tom Brady on the roster. CBS Sports contends this is an image problem that Mayo and the rookie quarterback must resolve.

Currently, Drake Maye is the only shining light within the Patriots. Mayo and him are charged with rebuilding the franchise, per the report. However, it will be a tough task without the insurgence of fresh talent from outside.

Tom Brady shares his advice for Drake Maye

Since Brady left the Patriots before the 2020 season, the franchise has employed three QBs with little success. However, for the first time since then, it has a young and top-three pick QB in its hands. Brady did not shy away from sharing advice to Maye in an interview with Yahoo Sports.

I’m very fortunate to be around him, and I like him a lot. I’ve heard great things about him. But his opportunity is really going to be what he makes of it, and how he wants to develop it.”

In the same interview, Brady highlighted the pitfalls of hanging every hope on a young QB. The seven-time Super Bowl winner considered it a recipe for the failure of young QBs in the league.
