Peyton Manning’s former center scoffs at Tom Brady’s booth debut as a reason to watch Browns vs Cowboys
Tom Brady's booth debut has been on the calendar in one way or another since before the start of the 2022 season. The wait has felt longer than learning who the next two Super Bowl champions were going to be back in 2022. However, some, it seems, had not been waiting at all.
Speaking on a Sept. 3 edition of "Get Up," NFL analyst, former Colts head coach and Peyton Manning's former center Jeff Saturday scoffed at the idea of marking the occasion. He eventually caved as the other analysts, including Mike Greenberg, began to protest, but it appeared to be clear what his real opinion was.
"Tom Brady announcing — I frickin love Greeny. That's where we are at now. It's a pretty big deal, but let's talk about the game," Saturday said [Timestamp: 3:33]
Brady is starting a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox. With the work starting in 2024, the former quarterback is set to be in the booth at least until 2034. If he works through the entire deal, he could still be in the booth to watch as Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts enter the late stages of their careers.
Tom Brady set to pass NFL career earnings by conclusion of deal with Fox
The former quarterback of the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers is already a wealthy man, but the Fox deal is set to add to his bottom line considerably. He won't need to take hits and risk his health, either.
When he played in the NFL, Brady earned roughly $333 million dollars, per Spotrac. Brady played quarterback in the NFL from 2000 until 2022, earning him roughly $15 million per year on average. Of course, based on his various contracts over the years, his earnings were up and down at various points, with his lowest salary coming early in his career.
At Fox, Brady will earn $375 million over 10 years, per Yahoo Sports. As such, he will more than double his total earnings for the NFL in half the time. This means he will earn roughly a little more than four times as much per season on average than when he was a quarterback.
That said, this assumes the former New England Patriots quarterback sticks around.
Some announcers don't stick around, and some even return to the gridiron. This happened with Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.
However, with Brady having his friend and former teammate Rob Gronkowski as a co-worker at Fox, he already has one massive reason to stick around.
