Philadelphia Eagles vs Washington Commanders box score, summary and match player stats feat. Saquon Barkley, Terry McLaurin and more

Saquon Barkley entered the game with 1,688 rushing yards, on pace for a historic year. He kicked the Eagles offense off with a 20-yard run to snap up a first down. Another 2-yard run put the Eagles on the board early on as they picked up a 7-0 lead. This was their first opening-drive touchdown of the season.

Despite a 47-yard return from Luke McCaffrey, the Commanders failed to make things happen, turning the ball over and giving the Eagles another chance to put the offense on the field. An A.J. Brown touchdown off a Kenny Pickett throw put some more daylight between the two teams. This was, of course, Pickett’s first TD in an Eagles uniform after Jalen Hurts was taken off the field due to a concussion scare.

Jamison Crowder’s tuddie brought the Commanders back in the game, giving them some hope but that was quickly wiped away by Saquon Barkley’s 68-yard TD. Barkley racked up over 100 rushing yards in the first quarter, making a statement in his chase for the MVP crown. Jayden Daniels' 32-yard TD to Terry McLaurin kept things interesting but the Eagles held onto the 21-14 lead into the break.

The Commanders turned the heat on the Eagles in the second half with Washington's run defense stifling Saquon Barkley. After Jayden Daniels threw three more TDs, the Commanders managed to push the Eagles all the way to eventually pick up their 10th win of the season with a 36-33 victory. With that, the Commanders move to 10-5, improving their playoff chances to 94%, effectively locking their place in the playoffs. The Eagles, meanwhile, lose the opportunity to leapfrog the Detroit Lions as the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

The major concern for the Eagles will be the health of Jalen Hurts, who was ruled out with a concussion. Kenny Pickett took his place in the first quarter itself but failed to power through despite the talent on offer. The Eagles go up against the Dallas Cowboys next on the 29th of December at Lincoln Financial Field.
