Pitting LA Rams' 2023 NFL revenue vs Los Angeles Lakers revenue: Which franchise comes out on top?
The LA Rams and the Los Angeles Lakers have both seen multiple great eras since 2000. However, they don't just win on the court and the football field, respectively.
They also pull in hundreds of millions in revenue. But which franchise is the most lucrative? Here's a look at the numbers, courtesy of a July 8 report by Sportico and sports editor Eben Novy-Williams, via X.
The Los Angeles Lakers pulled in a gargantuan $558 million for their work this season, falling short of one team. The Golden State Warriors, an eternal rival of LeBron James, were the only team to earn more than the Lakers, with $764 million.
However, the LA Rams, by default, are sitting prettier than the Lakers. According to Sportico, as a member of the NFL, the Rams took home $404 million in national revenue from the league, alongside every other team. That doesn't include jersey sales, ticket sales and various money-making endeavors.
As such, Cooper Kupp's team wouldn't need to make up much ground on their own to pass their Los Angeles Lakers brothers. Per Vivid Seats, the average ticket price is $225 per seat. According to ALSD, the stadium can house up to 100,000 seats.
This means that if the team sells out a game, they are due up to $22.5 million. With 17 games in a season, revenue can add up to $382 million per regular season, plus a bonus if the team makes the playoffs.
Put simply, Matthew Stafford's team earns more per season than LeBron James' Lakers.
Where do the Rams rank among the NFL's most valuable franchises?
Forbes has the most recent team valuations compiled from 2023. According to the list, Matthew Stafford's team is the third most valuable franchise in the NFL at $6.9 billion. Only the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys are valued more.
The New England Patriots are valued at $7 billion. Meanwhile, Jerry Jones' Cowboys are valued at $9 billion. With the estimates now inching on a year old, and the perennial valuation increases happening at a steady clip, the values are likely even higher in mid-2024.
The Los Angeles Rams rank above the New York Giants and Chicago Bears, who sit just behind the team in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The least valuable team in the league is the Cincinnati Bengals, valued at $3.5 billion.
