"Proved it again": Travis Kelce fires back at Raiders after Patrick Mahomes got his sweet revenge for ‘Kermit the Frog’ insult
Earlier this offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes were trolled by their AFC West rival, the Las Vegas Raiders. While many around the league have made fun of Mahomes' voice for sounding like "Kermit the Frog," the Raiders took it a step further.
During training camp, Raiders rookie safety Trey Taylor found a fan's Kermit the Frog doll dressed like Mahomes and joked around with it. Taylor mocked the famous "I'm here" line that Mahomes shouted in the middle of a heated game.
The Raiders and the Chiefs met for the first of two meetings this Sunday. The Chiefs improved to 7-0 with a 27-20 victory.
Following the win and speaking on his New Heights Chiefs podcast, tight end Travis Kelce said that Taylor's video of Mahomes was extra motivation heading into their matchup this season.
"And everybody wants to, you know, rise to the occasion and really make their statement all the all the Kermit stuff that happened between the Raiders and them saying that they had the formula to stop Mahomes," Kelce said.
"I think that was just, you know, icing on the cake of motivation to really go out there and show them that they didn't have that formula, you know, and we got to go out there and proved it again. We got to prove it again when we play them down the road here after Thanksgiving."
Mahomes said in the offseason that he had seen the video emerge on his timeline several times and that he would handle the situation when it arose. So far, the Chiefs have won one of their two regular-season games against the Raiders.
What are Patrick Mahomes' career stats against the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Chiefs have dominated the Raiders since Mahomes entered the league in 2017.
Mahomes has an 11-2 career record against the Raiders. He began his career winning the first four matchups against the Silver and Black. After a loss on Oct. 11, 2020, Mahomes and the Chiefs would win six straight until suffering their second loss in the team's second meeting last season.
In 13 total games, Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 3,835 yards, 32 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
