"Put your money where your mouth is": Texans RB Joe Mixon hits out at NFL referees over missed call on hip-drop tackle

Joe Mixon has started on his new team with flying colors. However, the running back could not play all the snaps on Sunday. Mixon suffered an ankle injury from an apparent hip-drop tackle and had to be taken out of the game. The RB called out the NFL refs for the alleged miss.

During the third quarter of the Houston Texans’ game against the Chicago Bears, Mixon was dragged down by LB T.J. Edwards. By all accounts, the tackle seemed to be a hip-drop tackle that has been now banned by the NFL. However, the move was not penalized.

Joe Mixon took to X (formerly Twitter) to lash out against the ruling that was not applied in his case:

“The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is.”

The RB furthermore opened up on his interaction with the referee after the play. Mixon tried to convey his dissatisfaction with the referee’s call on X:

“When I got up I asked the ref where is the flag that was a hip tackle. & his reply was no it wasn’t.”

Mixon’s departure in the third quarter did not hurt the Texans much as the team increased its lead. The Texans won 19-13 in their first home game of the season. Mixon ended the night with 25 rushing yards and 25 receiving yards.

DeMeco Ryans spoke about Joe Mixon's injury

After the Pro Bowler was injured, he was taken out of the game. He came back with only 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Joe Mixon was on the field but in a far subdued state. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans spoke about the injury to the press after the game.

“Joe got rolled up. The guy's weight definitely came down on his ankle," Ryans said as per ESPN. "We'll evaluate Joe throughout the week. Hopefully he's OK.”

The Texans will face the Minnesota Vikings at the U.S. Bank Stadium next. Fans would hope that Joe Mixon is cleared and 100% for the clash on next Sunday.
