"Racism at it’s finest": Patriots' Christian Barmore sounds off at Providence police after he got pulled over
Christian Barmore is experiencing trouble with the police weeks after Miami Dolphins star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, was detained by the Miami-Dade police just hours ahead of kickoff.
Christian Barmore was pulled over and approached by the police who eventually asked for an updated registration, and according to the police report, gave them "attitude and asked for a ticket." Barmore then allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle while "reaching under the seat attempting to conceal an object." He finally came out when the officers dialed up his mother.
As a result of the traffic stop, Barmore received three citations: the display of plates penalties, operation of an unregistered vehicle, and driving with an expired registration.
Barmore took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent about the situation and called his experience with the police "racism at its finest." He later deleted the post, but some fans managed to capture a screenshot of his deleted tweet.
Barmore wrote:
"I just experienced for the first time 5 Providence cops being very unprofessional racism at it’s finest."
Police Col. Oscar Perez reacted to the statement made by the New England Patriots DT and said that Barmore could reach out to them any time to help sort out the matter in a more "constructive" manner:
"We will continue to review the situation to ensure that proper procedures were followed and to maintain transparency with the public. If there are any concerns or questions about this incident we encourage Mr. Barmore to reach out to the Providence Police Department so we can address them in a constructive manner."
Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is aware of what transpired with his player and told reporters:
"I had a conversation with him this morning," Mayo said. "But like I said, at least for this time here with you guys, I just want to focus on Jacksonville."
When will Christian Barmore return to the gridiron?
Two months ago, the Patriots DT had been diagnosed with blood clots and had been ruled out for an indefinite period of time. Recently, however, Jerod Mayo offered a promising update on Christian Barmore's health:
"He’s progressing,” Mayo told reporters a few days ago. "He still has some checkpoints or hurdles to get over, but he’s progressing well."
When he was asked a follow-up question as to whether Barmore was in a much better position to return this season than he was some weeks ago, Mayo responded with, "I would say, yes."
