Raiders HC Antonio Pierce drops 8-word response to Davante Adams' trade question
Antonio Pierce has recently had to deal with rumors that Davante Adams wants out of the Las Vegas Raiders. But even though his social media activity last week hinted at willingness, he has rectified his stance on the matter.
The head coach took to the press on Monday to discuss multiple topics, including his star wideout's trade demand. When that subject came up, he had a curt response (6:48 to begin):
"I don't know. You gotta ask Davante that."
When asked for an update, he only said:
"Status quo."
Adams has been most strongly linked to the New York Jets, where his former ex-Green Bay teammate Aaron Rodgers currently plays; and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who badly need a WR2 ever since they traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers.
Antonio Pierce discusses QB1 situation in wake of Gardner Minshew benching
In the same presser, Antonio Pierce discussed the Raiders' quarterback situation.
During the team's 18-34 loss at the Denver Broncos, Gardner Minshew managed only 137 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions (one of them returned for a touchdown) from 12 competions before being benched for sophomore Aidan O'Connell, who added another pick. After the game, he said:
"I thought we got off to a good start. Then I killed off our momentum with a pick-six and at the end of the day, I didn’t do a good enough job giving us a shot to be competitive in this game That's on me, I'll get back to work and keep going. No matter what my role is on the team, I’m gonna help the team any way I can."
Pierce seemed to agree:
"That was very deflating. I think everybody understood and saw that... Offensively, we kind of hit the mud. It's all about the football. You've got to protect the football. The easiest way to lose the game is turnovers."
Focus now shifts towards this coming Sunday's game against the Steelers. He said about the possibility of switching to O'Connell:
"We know what we're going to get with Aidan, right? That back foot hits the ground, ball comes out, he's a cerebral player, knows where the ball needs to go. I've seen enough of Aidan last year, the spring, to know what to expect from (him)."
Kickoff is at 4:05 PM on CBS.
