Rams fed up with refereeing mistakes, want all personal fouls to be reviewable - Report
The Los Angeles Rams, along with the rest of the league and NFL fans, are tired of the recent influx of penalty calls. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Rams are going to submit a proposal for a rule change to the NFL's competition committee.
This rule change would require all personal foul calls, including roughing the passer, to be reviewed. This would benefit teams who have been at the receiving end of controversial roughing the passer calls in recent weeks.
Two roughing the passer calls were made last week that had many scratching their heads. One was called on the Atlana Falcons' Grady Jarrett on a sack of quarterback Tom Brady. The other was called on the Kansas City Chiefs' Chirs Jones as he picked up a fumble recovery after taking down Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
This isn't the first time that the Los Angeles Rams have proposed a rule change. Last year, the team asked for all roughing the passer penalties to be reviewed. The change was voted against with a unanimous 9-0 vote, but this season, it has again become a hot topic of discussion.
The roughing the passer call is likely to be discussed at the offseason meetings as well as the upcoming owners meeting on Tuesday in New York City. But analysts aren't optimistic that there will be any change in regards to the highly talked about penalty rules.
Are the LA Rams looking to trade RB Cam Akers?
On Sunday morning, the Los Angeles Rams announced that running back Cam Akers would be out of the Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The Rams said his absence was down to personal reasons.
Los Angeles is also expected to start taking trade requests for the running back beginning this week. There could be a significant amount of interest in the running back who hasn't seen much playing time through the first five weeks of the season.
There is speculation that Akers and Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay don't see 'eye to eye'. The two apparently have philsophical as well as football-related differences that they apparently can't seem to work through.
McVay has not commented on the situation, but when asked by reporters last week about Akers, he simply said that they planned to keep it in-house.
"I would say it's more like we're dealing with things internally. This is kind of unchartered territory and I think the biggest thing is, out of respect for the situation, we want to keep it internally."
So far this season, Akers has had 51 carries for 151 rushing yards and one touchdown, averaging under three yards per carry.
