Randall Cobb reveals why he doesn't want NFL career for his kids - "I took all the CTE so y'all could do something else"
Free agent wide receiver Randall Cobb is a 13-year NFL veteran. He last played for the New York Jets in the 2023 season. Cobb is clear on the path for his three sons - no professional football.
Cobb appeared on the "Bussin with the Boys" podcast hosted by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. He was asked if he'd pressure his kids to choose the University of Kentucky (Cobb's Alma Mater) if they were to get recruited.
Cobb agreed with Compton. He then expounded on why he doesn't want a professional football career for his children. [From 45:30]
"You know, definitely I would love for them to follow my footsteps," Cobb said. "But I also don't want my kids to play football either. Like I'm trying to push them to soccer or tennis or golf. I took all the hits. I took all that possible CTE, so y'all could go do something else."
Cobb is concerned about the health of his kids. NFL players are more prone to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) due to the physicality of the sport of football.
He added:
So if they would make that decision to decide to play later on in life, then you know, I'll probably let them around high school, but I'm not gonna let them play [professionally] like they can play flag [football]. That's my personal opinion.
Randall Cobb has three sons, a six-year-old Caspian Cyrus (the eldest), a four-year-old Cade Rumi (the middle child) and Chance Atlas (the youngest), whom they welcomed in March 2024. He has been happily married to Aiyda Cobb since 2012.

Investing, that's that's a big piece of life for me... [Investing] in some different companies and different things. So just trying to find that next facet, what sparks interest. So I'm planting seeds right now seeing what grows."
Cobb added:
"I don't know enough about it [podcasting]. I mean, I enjoyed this today, but I'm not opposed to it... I'm open I can button up I can. I can keep it relaxed like this."
Randall Cobb spent his 13-year NFL career with four teams, namely the Green Bay Packers (two stints), Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and the New York Jets. He recorded 630 receptions, 7,624 receiving yards and 54 touchdowns in his pro football career.
