"Eagles need to get hit with RICO": Rapper Wale pushes NFL to investigate Philly over Jahan Dotson trade

On Thursday, the Washington Commanders traded wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles. It's unusual for two NFC East division teams to make a trade, especially for a player of Dotson's caliber. In-division trades typically revolve around draft picks, not big-name players.

Rapper Wale, who is a diehard sports fan, is questioning the legality of the trade.

"The Eagles neeed to get hit a RICO.. they doin somethin illegal over there. Im tellin @NFL can u investigate the @Eagles. Thnx," Wale wrote on X.

Jahan Dotson competed for the number two wide receiver role in the Washington Commanders offense. With Terry McLaurin as the number one receiver, Luke McCaffrey and Dyami Brown are options for the position.

Jahan Dotson's trade details explored

The Commanders drafted wide receiver Jahan Dotson with the 16th overall pick in 2022. In his rookie season, he had 35 catches for 523 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, he played in 17 games and had 49 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns.

In his first two seasons in the NFL, the wide receiver has been unable to get the explosiveness in the passing game as some believed he was capable of in the NFL. The Commanders traded Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick as well as two seven-round selections in 2025, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.

It appears the Commanders were ready to move on from Dotson. They believe they have other options at the position. It's a solid trade for the Eagles that could pay dividends for their offense. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are their top two wide receivers, but the Eagles have struggled to find consistency with a third receiving option.

Dotson brings that and allows him to play back home in Pennsylvania, making him even more eager to bring his A-game to the field each week.
