Rashee Rice injury update: Latest on Chiefs WR for Fantasy Football Week 5
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was trending toward having a breakout second season. After becoming the Chiefs' leading receiver last year as a rookie with 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns, Rice recorded 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs' first three games this season.
With the Chiefs facing their rival, the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, Rice was looking for another productive game to build off of his strong first three games. But Rice ended the day with no stats, as he left the game early in the first quarter due to an injury.
Still, without Rice, the Chiefs managed to beat the Chargers 17-10.
Rashee Rice injury update
In the first quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs Los Angeles Chargers game, Rice was carted off of the field after quarterback Patrick Mahomes directly hit his knee while trying to make a tackle.
Rice was quickly ruled out of the game due to the injury. ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter later tweeted a significant update on Rice's knee injury:
"Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game vs the Chargers, per sources. There will be additional testing to confirm the initial diagnosis."
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said that he feels terrible for Rice but that the team is hoping for the best.
Rashee Rice Fantasy Outlook: Should you start Chiefs WR in Week 5?
No, you should not start Rice in Week 5 for Fantasy Football. Even if Rice didn't tear his ACL, he is expected to miss time with his knee injury. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy and tight end Travis Kelce should receive an increase in the volume of touches in Rice's absence.
There's a good chance Rice's season is over. The belief is he tore his ACL and if that is the case, he would likely be out for the rest of the year.
The Chiefs already lost wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown for the season and are without running back Isiah Pacheco for about eight weeks. They could be without Rice for the remainder of the season. Still, they are 4-0.
