Report reveals Jets owner Woody Johnson’s massive donation to Republican party surpassing Breece Hall's $1,114,762 salary
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is one of the top-five NFL owners with the most money donated to Presidential candidates or political action committees (PACs) focused on pushing the interest of a specific industry or a specific issue since Jan. 1, 2023.
Johnson has donated $1,806,300, according to USA Today.
He only trails the Denver Broncos' Rob Walton ($16,597,200), Atlanta Falcons' Arthur Blank ($3,328,000) and David A. Tepper, who owns the Carolina Panthers ($2,887,500). Behind Johnson, Carrie Walton, another Denver Broncos owner, closes out the top five ($1,064,900).
Johnson's donations to the Republican Party are a little bit more than the Jets are paying standout running back Breece Hall this season ($1,524,525, per Spotrac), and will be only $100K less than they'll pay the player next season ($1,934,287).
Woody Johnson isn't the only owner spending more money on politicians than his own players. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers owners, the Glazer Family, donated more than $3.2 million to the Democratic Party. This is more than double what they're paying Baker Mayfield in base salary ($1,125,000 salary, per Spotrac).
This donation was made by Avram Glazer, one of the members of the family who owns the Bucs. The money was donated to different portions of the party and $1.7 million of donation landed with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' campaigns.
Woody Johnson could make major change within Jets organization if they miss the playoffs
The New York Jets dropped their fifth consecutive game of the season to the New England Patriots, 25-22, on Sunday. They are now 2-6 and their playoff picture looks as dark as they come.
The New Yorkers have made several moves this season, including firing Robert Saleh, demoting Nathaniel Hackett from play-calling duties and even trading for Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders.
If these moves are unsuccessful for the Jets, Sportskeeda's NFL insider Tony Pauline says that Woody Johnson will fire general manager Joe Douglas.
Johnson would start over, again, and could turn his attention to Mike Borgonzi, the current assistant general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, but his name hasn't been mentioned as a replacement for Douglas as of right now.
This team entered this season with high expectations after Aaron Rodgers returned from a season-ending injury. They had a solid 2-1 start, but after their Week 3 win over the Patriots, the Jets have struggled to find consistency.
