“I like it” - Retired Patriots star encourages Tyreek Hill to quit football
It might be hard to believe, but Tyreek Hill is already on the edge of becoming old in the NFL. 2023 will be his last season in his 20s and once a player hits 30, there are no guarantees about longevity. As such, the receiver has announced that his intentions are to hang it up at the conclusion of his current deal, per ESPN.
In response, a player who just crossed the retirement bridge, Jason McCourty, encouraged the receiver to hang it up. Here's how he put it, on Good Morning Football:
"I like it. He is planning for the future... Tyreek Hill is saying 'I've made generational wealth while playing football', whether it's gaming, whatever it is he wants to do next, he is already thinking about it. NFL Network just put on the broadcast boot camp this week. I was there last year. Now I'm sitting here next to James Slater on Good Morning Football."
Will Tyreek Hill retire as a Miami Dolphin?
He continued, explaining that his NFL accomplishments will carry him to the next level of his life:
"Tyreek Hill has plans. He's going to use the wealth and the notoriety he gained playing football and he's going to be able to build it towards a future to be the leader of his family and for everybody to be looking at him, figuring out the next chapter in his life."
Tyreek Hill's contract situation: When will the Dolphins WR's contract expire?
According to Spotrac, the Dolphins wide receiver is still locked down through to the 2026 season. However, if his performance doesn't match his earnings, the team will be able to start saving money by cutting him in 2025. When his deal ends after the 2026 season, he will be 33 years old.
As such, choosing to retire at that age falls squarely in the zone where many star receivers call it quits. However, with him thinking about retirement already, some fans are nervous that 2023 could see a premature dip in production. This might be due to the receiver continuing to think about what comes next rather than what's happening right now.
