“They've got to blow it up”- Rex Ryan claims the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are too old to contend with Tom Brady
The season has been very underwhelming for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With their 7-35 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Bucs are now 6-7 and in danger of missing the playoffs.
Brady's age is well documented as he turned 45 years old before the regular season started. However, their entire squad is quite old when compared to other teams. Speaking on Get Up, Rex Ryan urged the Buccaneers to consider making a fresh start.
Here's what he said about Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
"Here's the thing. It wasn't just this game. That frustration has been about the entire season. And here's what it is. This team is old and slow. They are and I get it. Brady's old or whatever. It's slow. But no, it's everybody in that thing."
He added:
"They've got to blow it up. At some point, they got to board up. Tom Brady's done or not, he can't see can't stay there. He needs to go somewhere else or anything else. But right now this team, they stay you know, they can't block they can't do anything."
This might be Tom Brady's last season at Tampa Bay as he is set to become a free agent after this season. The Bucs could look to start afresh by trading away their veteran stars to get some draft compensation in return.
Tampa Bay might look to target another solidified quarterback like Jimmy Garopollo in free agency if they want to continue to contend. The NFC South is a mess, and all four teams still have a legitimate shot at winning the division.
What's next for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still in a strong position to win the NFC South and qualify for the playoffs. However, the road ahead is not easy. These are their remaining fixtures this season:
- Week 15 vs Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 16 @ Arizona Cardinals
- Week 17 vs Carolina Panthers
- Week 18 @ Atlanta Falcons
With the way the Cincinnati Bengals are playing with quarterback Joe Burrow, it seems unlikely that the Bucs will win that game. However, they could win the next three games.
As stated earlier, the entire NFC South is something of a mess. If Brady and the Bucs are able to play even 75% of their best football in the last three games, they can win the division and go to the playoffs. Perhaps then, the matter of Brady's age will become less relevant.
