"Give me Tom Brady and see my stats" - Rex Ryan takes a veiled dig at Bill Belichick over his success as Patriots HC

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is amongst the greatest coaches in NFL history.

One of his former competitors, Rex Ryan, thinks that Tom Brady carried Belichick to a lot of the success that he's had in his career.

Via ESPN, Ryan said that if you gave him Tom Brady, he would have won maybe six or seven Super Bowls.

Ryan said:

"Give me Tom Brady and see my stats, how many Super Bowls I would've won? I don't know if I would've won 6 or 7, but maybe."

Ryan could have insinuated that Belichick amassed success due to Tom Brady.

Since Brady departed from New England in 2020, Belichick has been 25-25 as the head coach. He led the Patriots to the playoffs last season but they lost to the Buffalo Bills in the first round.

Despite Ryan's comments, what Belichick has done is remarkable.

He has a record of six Super Bowl victories as a head coach, as well as nine Super Bowl appearances. He also has 31 playoff victories, which is the most all-time.

Belichick's career win-loss record, including the postseason, sits at 321-156. He won coach of the year three times in his career (2003, 2007, and 2010.) and also has two Super Bowl victories as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants.

Yes, Belichick had Brady with him during all of his success, but they were both an amazing QB-HC duo, that worked together for the accolades they accomplished.

Rex Ryan was an NFL coach from 2009-2016. He accepted the Jets' head coach's offer on January 19, 2009 to replace the then-head coach, Eric Mangini.

He made the playoffs in each of his first two seasons with the team, and reached the AFC Championship game both times.

He struggled the next four seasons with the Jets going 26-38 and missing the playoffs each year.

Ryan began the next chapter of his head coaching career in 2015 with the Buffalo Bills. He lasted only two seasons as he went 8-8 with the team in his first season and then 7-8 in his second season before being fired.

It's safe to say that Rex Ryan would have had more success if he had Brady as his quarterback, but to say he would have reached six or seven Super Bowls seems like a stretch.
