Richard Sherman calls out Jerry Jones' Cowboys for "disastrous" player management amid contract chaos

Heading into the 2024 season, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are looking to get contract extensions done with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Both are entering the final year of their current contracts.

The expectation was for Dallas to agree to long-term deals for both, but as each day passes and draws closer to the 2024 season, it seems as if it's less likely either extension will happen.

Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman spoke about the Cowboys' situation, regarding two of their star players not getting extensions yet. He thinks it's poor player management by the team and owner, Jerry Jones.

"This is a disastrous level front office management of player management, roster management, whatever you want to put it," Sherman said on his podcast. "And some of it is the front office. Some of it is Jerry's expectations and the things that he said. If he didn't say anything, you don't expect anything." (23:09)
"If you're a good organization, Detroit is creating a good organization, a great culture. 'Hey, you earn your money. We pay you your money.' We keep homegrown CeeDee, Micah, or Dak is homegrown, and you're not paying them. What message are you sending to the rest of the team? It's not a winning culture." (26:00)

Until the team extends CeeDee Lamb and/or Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones will continue to get asked about their contract situations.

Last week, Jones gave an update to the media about where things stand regarding contract extensions with Lamb and Prescott. He said they're 'progressing, but he doesn't want to talk about contract talks anymore.

On contract talks with Lamb:

“They’re just progressing, in my mind."

Regarding Prescott, Jones said:

“I would say that we’re talking. I would not have a legitimate progress point there at all. And I really don’t have it for Lamb, either. And it’s not negative. I’m just thinking it wouldn’t do any good to talk about progress.”

Jones was then asked if there was one player who was closer to an agreement, and that's when Jones said he didn't want to talk about contract negotiations.

Last season, Lamb led the NFL in receptions (135), totaling 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Prescott led the league in completions (410) and threw for 4,516 yards and career-high 36 touchdowns.

Do you think Dallas will lock them up before the start of the season?
