Richard Sherman goes in on Zach Wilson after Robert Saleh's big decision on QB
The New York Jets have been one of the more surprising teams in the NFL this season with a 6-4 record. Despite their impressive run, there has been pretty bad play by second-year quarterback Zach Wilson.
Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman went on a rant about Wilson on his podcast, The Richard Sherman Podcast, and said that Wilson sucks.
"Everybody's like he's (Zach Wilson) too young. And he's just young, Sauce is young. He's a rookie. And he says, 'Hey, I got to play better'. Did Sauce really need to play better? No, you didn't. Is Sauce considered a leader on that team now even though he's a rookie because of his high level of play? He is and you know what he did?
"He said 'You know what, I'm gonna put this on my back so that other guys can understand (what it's) like being held accountable. I hold myself accountable [to a] higher standard. I can be better for you guys. I understand that'. You cannot complete nine passes in a game and say, 'I don't think I let my defense down at all.'"
Sherman added that the Jets have capable backups in Mike White and Joe Flacco that can succeed with the targets they have.
"Right? Like his receivers were dying. They're ready to fight him during a game. And it's like you get in a situation where you have Mike White, and you have Flacco backing him up, [they are] very capable guys. Mike White rallied these guys, kind of like how Nikki did with Commanders and they loved him.
"You know, he had some good games. They had some bad games. Flacco again, had some good games [and] had some bad games. But they have weapons around him that he could get the ball to these guys, when they're open."
New York Jets will start Mike White vs. the Chicago Bears as they benched Zach Wilson
The inevitable was coming, and it came this morning as New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced that the team would be benching Zach Wilson.
Backup quarterback Mike White will start in place of Wilson vs. the Chicago Bears, with veteran Joe Flacco serving as the backup. Wilson will be inactive in the game as a healthy scratch.
Wilson has had a bad second year in the NFL. As a rookie, he finished the year with a quarterback rating of 69.7 while throwing nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Despite having a 5-2 starting record this season, Wilson has thrown four touchdowns and five interceptions while averaging less than 200 yards a game.
