Ricky Pearsall injury update: HC Kyle Shanahan delivers breather for 49ers fans
The situation around the wide receivers of the San Francisco 49ers is very fluid at the moment. With Brandon Aiyuk still negotiating a new deal with the franchise, it looked like a part of the snaps would've gone to Ricky Pearsall, the newly drafted wide receiver.
Except that Pearsall didn't really impress as expected, and even more, the wide receiver suffered an injury during camp that raised eyebrows around the team. Even though it seemed at some point that his pick could be a response to Aiyuk's standoff, it's increasingly likely his impact in 2024 won't be massive.
But at least they have reason to hope. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Pearsall is going to practice on Monday: a bit of fresh air for the fans who expected him to show what he can do during camp, but had to wait.
It's still unclear what's going to happen in Aiyuk's situation, but Pearsall's return at least gives the offense a new weapon to try and do anything. As we've seen in San Francisco's preseason games, their depth in the receiving room is absolutely awful, so adding a talented player to the field will do wonders.
Is there anything new to reports about Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers' contract standoff?
Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers have to feel a bit tired about their contract standoff. The wide receiver is still looking for a new deal, while the 49ers want to keep him - but at a lower price. The two sides still couldn't reach an agreement.
It seems that some progress has been made and a deal looks more likely now than a couple of weeks ago, but until the pen is put to paper, the receiver will still be away from practices. He's there in meetings and working out, but when it's time to go to the field, he's not with his teammates.
The San Francisco 49ers are over the 2025 cap, and there's no guarantee that the wide receiver would accept his contract to be backloaded. Guarantees are going to be a huge part of the discussion, but a resolution should come by September 08.
