Rihanna leaves no doubt over feelings on Kendrick Lamar headlining 2025 Super Bowl halftime show
In September, the NFL announced the performer for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show. Many football fans thought the much-coveted honor would go to pop sensation Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs' star tight end, Travis Kelce. But Swifites and Chiefs fans were both disappointed.
Instead of Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar was chosen. Fans may not be totally on board with the league's decision, but a performer who's already headlined a Super Bowl halftime show was completely pumped.
A reporter caught up with Rihanna and asked her how she felt about Lamar headlining the program.
She said:
"Go! Let's go! What is there to doubt on that? It's a diamond on a ring finger, honey. It's meant to be. Kendrick Lamar. He deserves it. I cannot wait to see Kendrick."
Who were the last 5 performers at the Super Bowl halftime shows?
Believe it or not, the earliest halftime shows had college marching bands performing on the gridiron. However, since Super Bowl XXVII, the biggest stars in pop, R&B and rock have headlined the show.
The performers of the last 5 Super Bowls were:
- Super Bowl LVIII (2024) - Usher
- Super Bowl LVII (2023) - Rihanna
- Super Bowl LVI (2022) - Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar
- Super Bowl LV (2021) - The Weeknd
- Super Bowl LIV (2020) - Shakira and Jennifer Lopez
So, it's not Kendrick Lamar's first rodeo. He had previously performed in the Super Bowl, but this season will be his first solo effort.
Do Super Bowl performers get paid?
Artists do not receive a salary to perform at the Super Bowl.
As NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter had previously stated, the league covers the expenses and production costs undertaken by the artists to perform at the Super Bowl, but they do not get paid:
"We do not pay the artists. We only cover expenses and production costs."
