Rob Gronkowski anticipates Tom Brady's take on Anthony Richardson tapping out
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson surprised the NFL world on Sunday when he took himself out of the game against the Houston Texans. After avoiding a sack in the third quarter, Richardson left the field due to fatigue. He later confirmed that to be the case in post-game interviews.
Everyone over the last few days has been talking about Richardson's surprising choice to take himself out of the game. Former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski spoke about the incident this morning with Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams Show."
Gronkowski said that he's never seen that before in a game and it isn't a good look for the Colts organization or for Anthony Richardson.
"It was, it was a little bit too much. I mean, as a quarterback, I never seen that happen. You're supposed to be in the game throughout the whole game, and never come out as a quarterback. Joe Flacco is not tapping his helmet. I can tell you that. I mean, it was not a good look for Richardson. It wasn't a good look for the organization..."
Adams then asked Gronk what he thought his former quarterback, Tom Brady's live reaction was in person when finding out about the news. Gronk continued:
"Brady's reaction in real time? Oh man, that's probably why I've never seen it happen, because that's been my quarterback throughout my whole career is Tom Brady. But he was probably down on, down on the pole, pretty low."
Anthony Richardson 'hurt' that the Indianapolis Colts decided to bench him
Yesterday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they will start Joe Flacco this week, moving Anthony Richardson to the bench. Head coach Shane Steichen said that Richardson will be the team's backup for the remainder of the season.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Richardson spoke about how much it hurt to be benched. At the same time, he's trying to remain optimistic and learn from his mistakes.
Richardson said:
“Of course, it hurts. As a competitor, you definitely don’t want to be told that you’re not the guy anymore for the upcoming week, but it’s all good. I’m using this moment as an opportunity to grow and just learn from my mistakes.”
Anthony Richardson was drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In 10 career starts, he's 5-5 and has completed 50.2 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,535 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
At age 22, Richardson still has a ton of time to develop, but will he play another snap this season for the Colts?
