Rob Gronkowski boldly predicts $125,000,000 AFC star will win the Defensive Player of the Year

Who will win AFC Defensive Player of the Year? Rob Gronkowski and Kay Adams had this debate on "Up & Adams" on Wednesday morning.

Adams is in favor of Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt winning the honor with the explosive season through the first two months of the season.

Gronkowski, on the other hand, is leaning toward another AFC North defensive star, Myles Garrett. The Super Bowl winning tight end compared Garrett to Terrell Suggs in the way he plays.

Evidently, Suggs won the AFC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2011. He signed a five year, $125 million contract extension with the Browns in 2020.

"I was mind blown with the way that he can jump up onto a 60-plus-inch box jump, which is super impressive for his size at his weight," Rob said. "And then finally it paid off, he jumped over an offensive lineman on a field goal and he blocked the kick. He's gonna be defensive player of the year. That's my pick pick. That's my prediction. He's plus 220 odds now and he's just been absolutely lighting up all over the field."

Rob added:

"He kind of reminds me of Terrell Suggs a little bit, he has that attitude. He brings it every single play. He's probably the best defender out there in the NFL right now one of the most feared guys to block."

While Rob Gronkowski called Garrett the scariest player in the NFL, Adams had her own reasons for Watt. She credited Watt and his leadership on the defense to help the team secure a 4-2 record and being second in the division standings.

Stats to support Rob Gronkowski choosing AFC's defensive player

Rob Gronkowski will likely get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in just a few years. NFL fans will agree that he is one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game. Throughout his career, he faced some of the greatest defensive players to ever step on the field. He knows what a great defensive player looks like.

Rob Gronkowski's support for Myles Garrett winning the AFC Player of the Year honors is more than just his persona. Garrett's stats on the season also support that notion.

Through six games this season, Garrett has 16 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one pass deflected and three forced fumbles.

The Cleveland Browns win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday may be considered controversial. However, Garrett's performance was rewarded with the AFC Player of the Week award. He had two sacks and one pass deflected on Sunday along with seven tackles.
