Rob Gronkowski explains exactly what transpired during his failed 'Kick of Destiny' attempt

In the weeks leading up to Super Bowl LVII, FanDuel advertised the "Kick of Destiny" featuring Rob Gronkowski. The former NFL tight end was expected to kick a field goal during a commercial for FanDuel after halftime of the big game. There were commercials showing Gronk training with Super Bowl winning quarterback Adam Vinatieri ahead of time.

FanDuel promised those who played bet at least $5 on the Super Bowl on their app a share of $10 million in FanDuel winnings if Gronk made the field-goal kick. The commercial aired and it quickly became disappointing. Gronkowski not only missed the kick as it approached the uprights, but the commercial seemed a bit too theatrical for what many expected.

On Monday morning, he spoke with Kay Adams on the "Up and Adams Show" and said that he felt that Mother Nature was having her say about whether he should make the kick or not:

"Right when I booted that I knew I booted that and I knew it was my best kick and I felt the confidence that it was going through no matter what. And then I looked up and it was scoring. And then all of a sudden, I swear, a wind gusts just came up to there. Mother Nature was like no, no, no, no, no Gronk. You're not scoring again in the Super Bowl."

The four-time Super Bowl winning quarterback went on to say that Mother Nature didn't want him to be successful at another Super Bowl.

“Mother Nature was like, ‘no no no no no Gronk!’”

He added:

“Mother Nature just sent this powerful wind, when the ball was about to go right through the uprights, right down the middle. You can even watch it. It's going directly through and all of a sudden the wind whopped the football and it went wide left."

Rob Gronkowski went on to say that he believed that the football was going right through and then all of a sudden a gust of wind whipped through the field and it went to the left.

Despite Rob Gronkowski missing the field goal, FanDuel decided to still reward their players and split the $10 million prize among them.

Gronkowski also told Kay Adams that he wants another opportunity to try the field goal. Perhaps FanDuel will try another promotion with him in the future.

Rob Gronkowski believes that Tom Brady's record are out of reach

Patrick Mahomes is just 27 years old and has won two of the three Super Bowl appearances he has made. While it seems like he is on track to break recently retired quarterback Tom Brady and his records, Rob Gronkowski thinks otherwise.

Gronk told Adams that he feels that Tom Brady has set the bar so high and worked so hard that it will be nearly impossible to break some of the records and titles that he currently holds:

"Tom Brady set the bar so high with seven Super Bowls, that these modern era quarterbacks will be chasing that until the day they die."
@RobGronkowski believes that @TomBrady has set the bar very high for any QB to qualify for GOAT conversation 🐐🗣️

He went on to say that it might be possible but that he doesn't see anyone breaking Brady's number of Super Bowl titles anytime soon.
