Rob Gronkowski opens up on Travis Kelce's lackluster start to the season
Travis Kelce, one of the best tight ends in recent years and NFL history, is off to a slow start this season. Through the Kansa City Chiefs' first three games, he only has eight catches for 69 yards and no touchdowns.
However, former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski isn't concerned about Kelce's numbers. On Kay Adams' "Up & Adams" show on Wednesday, Gronkowski opened up about the star tight end's struggles and said the only thing that matters is the team's record.
"It doesn't matter that he's not making plays right now," Gronkowski said. "The Chiefs are 3-0 right now, that's all it matters in the wins and loss column, they're undefeated. That's the only thing that matters in the game of football, not stats. "
Gronkowski then joked about how Kelce has the same amount of receiving yards this season as his brother Dan has had in his entire career.
"And if you ask me, Travis Kelce, he has the same amount of yards this year as my brother, Dan, who played three years in the NFL over his whole career. Dan G. has 69 career yards. Travis Kelce has 69 yards this year. So they're both legends right now."
Travis Kelce opens up about 2024 struggles
While Travis Kelce was just 16 yards shy of recording his eighth-straight 1,000-yard season last year, he is on pace to miss that milestone again this year but by a bigger number.
On Wednesday's episode of his "New Heights" podcast, Kelce said that he's not worried about his lack of production and that he thinks Patrick Mahomes has done a good job this season at finding open receivers.
"Whatever it is, it’s football, baby.," Kelce said. "I’m not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that, I just want to have a successful offense and I think Pat [Mahomes] is doing a great job of finding the open guy and making the right decisions right now, and we have to keep finding, it’s a new offense, new players, new pieces and we’re just finding how to have success throughout the season."
Kelce added that his only focus is helping his team win.
The 2023 Pro Bowler signed a two-year $34.25 million contract extension before the start of the 2024 season.
