Robert Griffin III cautions the NFL on Chiefs after SNF thriller in Arrowhead: "This team is dangerous"
The Kansas City Chiefs survived their umpteenth scare of the season and beat the Los Angeles Chargers 19-17 on Sunday with a buzzer-beating field goal from kicker Matthew Wright to improve to 12-1. The victory wrapped up the race for the AFC West division title, which belongs to the defending Super Bowl champion for the ninth year running.
Despite their nearly infallible record, there are doubts about their legitimacy as Super Bowl contenders. Ten of the Chiefs' 12 wins have been by less than eight points, and they have won three games where they scored less than 20 points.
The common consensus is that Kansas City has been extremely fortunate, and their luck will likely run out when they face one of the best teams in the league in the playoffs.
However, Robert Griffin III disagrees with that notion. Following the Chiefs' win over the Chargers, the retired quarterback warned teams that Kansas City is the most malleable team in the league and will continue finding ways to win, regardless of their underwhelming performance. He wrote on X:
"The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t even playing their best ball and keep finding ways to win. Yet it feels different than Philadelphia from last year because they have a core 4 in Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones who are all in sync. This team is dangerous."
Chiefs continue winning in unbelievable fashion
The Chiefs' catalog of narrow wins this season is hard to believe. In the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, the game was seemingly heading to overtime after Isiah Likely caught a touchdown pass right as the clock expired in the fourth quarter.
However, a hair's breadth of his toe landed out of bounds and the touchdown was taken off the board, handing Kansas City the win.
The Denver Broncos seemed primed to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the season in Week 10 with a game-winning field goal, but Kansas City's special teams came clutch and blocked Will Lutz's kick to secure victory for Kansas City.
Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders were well within field goal range and only needed to burn time off the clock before attempting the game-winner and handing the Chiefs their second loss of the season.
However, a botched snap led to a fumble, and linebacker Nick Bolton was the first to react. He recovered the ball to effectively end the game and help his team improve to 11-1.
Regardless of what transpires in the 60 minutes of game time on the field, the Chiefs just keep finding ways to come out on top. It remains to be seen whether that continues in the playoffs or one of the league's best teams will end their campaign.
