Russell Gage provides injury update after being carted off the field during Cowboys vs. Bucs

Russell Gage was carted off the field during the Super Wild Card Weekend finale. As his Tampa Bay Buccaneers were driving down the field, he took a huge hit to the back of the head and couldn't continue.

He's just provided an update on social media as to his wellbeing.

I appreciate all of the texts, calls, thoughts and prayers you all have expressed towards my family and I. I just wanted to let you all know that Iā€™m doing great and in great spirits!

Thank you!šŸ™šŸ¾

Gage tweeted:

"I appreciate all of the texts, calls, thoughts and prayers you all have expressed towards my family and I. I just wanted to let you all know that Iā€™m doing great and in great spirits! Thank you!"

The game was practically over at the time, with the Dallas Cowboys leading 31-6 with just over two minutes remaining.

Gage was taken off on a backboard and transported to the hospital, but he says he's in high spirits despite being diagnosed with a concussion, which is likely an addition to an already long line of head traumas.

The loss ended the Buccaneers' season, but the injury likely would have ended Gage's as well.

This season has seen several hospitalizations. Gage was taken off the field on Monday. Damar Hamlin had to be resuscitated a couple of weeks ago. Tua Tagovailoa was taken off in an ambulance earlier in the season. Nyheim Hines couldn't walk after sustaining a hit.

Head injuries have become a disappointingly common refrain during this season, and Gage's was the latest saddening sight.

What was Russell Gage diagnosed with?

Fortunately, Russell Gage is doing better. He's at least healthy enough to use his phone and tweet without clear cognitive issues. That is a blessing, considering the type of hit and the place on his head he was hit.

He spent the night in the hospital after officially being diagnosed with a concussion and an unnamed neck injury.

Gage appeared to attempt to stand up after being hit on an incomplete pass from Tom Brady. He was unable to, despite his best efforts.

The Buccaneers released a statement, saying:

"Russell has had movement in all extremities and will continue to undergo additional testing today. We will provide additional information as it becomes available."

Fortunately, that additional information came straight from Russell Gage.
