Russell Okung's $6,500,000 Bitcoin bet skyrockets by 207% amid surging crypto market post Donald Trump's win
Former Super Bowl-winning offensive tackle Russell Okung has seen a windfall as Bitcoin value has skyrocketed after Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential election. The Republican nominee's ascension to the position of President-elect has been a boon for Bitcoin and those who chose to remain invested in it.
Russell Okung opted to take half of his salary in Bitcoin when it first came into public consciousness at a mass level. That was worth $6.5 million then and it has turned into $20 million now. That represents a whopping 207% increase.
The retired offensive tackle is certainly happy with his earnings as he posted on X saying that some financial advisors had questioned his decision to put such a big pot of money into Bitcoin. He claimed that going the normal route is a trap, writing,
"normal is a trap. I dumped all our bonds because I believed. financial advisors questioned me."
Okung also said that there was nothing more to debate about his decision since the results were clear for all to see. He continued by proclaiming,
"results silence all debates"
The Super Bowl winner continued to also encourage others to take the plunge into Bitcoin saying that society might want people to be predictable to be great requires straying from the safe path. In one of his most liked posts on X, he exhorted,
"society wants to tame you, wants you predictable. but greatness demands wildness."
Donald Trump's election helps Russell Okung's Bitcoin stock despite past differences
Russell Okung will be happy that his worth has surged so much after Donald Trump was elected. It is especially noteworthy because they were on opposite sides of a social justice debate that came to a head the last time the President-elect was in the White House.
Donald Trump had memorably said that anyone kneeling during the National Anthem to protest police brutality should be fired from the NFL, with a focus on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who started the movement. The 45th President had said,
“Get that son of a b*tch off the field right now! Out! He’s fired!”
The movement was spawned by the San Francisco star before being taken up by multiple players. Okung was among them as he raised a fist during his time with the Chargers.
The player and Donald Trump might have been on the opposite side of that particular debate but the latter's ascension to the highest office of the land has definitely benefited the former.
