Russell Wilson cries conspiracy theory as reports emerge of Broncos QB losing locker room
Quarterback Russell Wilson is currently having a tough first season with the Denver Broncos, and reporters have been asking some hard questions. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback dispelled any rumors of him losing the Broncos' locker room. The quarterback doubled down on this and commented on the relationships he has with his teammates. Here's how he put it:
“I mean, I’ve got great relationships in that locker room, so whoever was trying to tear it down, you can’t."
He went on to say what it felt like to play with his teammates and what his biggest goal is with the franchise:
“This is a great team. We’ve got great players. I’m honored to be here. I’m honored to play with this team and these guys. There’s always noise, especially when things aren’t going the way you want it to all the time. The thing is that you don’t bad mouth."
He continued:
"My biggest goal every day is to continue to try to lead at the highest level and to be consistent every day with my approach, to never change and not let the highs of life change you and not let the lows [change you]."
Wilson concluded his comments by saying:
"Just be consistent with your approach, knowing that I love these guys every day, man, of who they are and what they’re about. . . . It’s a blessing to be on this team, and I’m honored.”
For Russell Wilson, the question of losing the locker room came after an incident on the sidelines in Week 12 versus the Panthers.
What happened between Russell Wilson and a teammate in Week 12?
Wilson was certainly saying the right things and was likely prepared for the question given the incident in Week 12. The Broncos faced the Panthers and lost by a score of 23 - 10. However, the biggest takeaway was the confrontation between Russell Wilson and defensive tackle Mike Purcell. Purcell went back to the sidelines and looked as though he had a few choice words for his quarterback.
Wilson didn't really say or do anything as Purcell ran past, giving him an earful. Wilson and the Broncos were quick to play this down, saying it was just a case of frustration boiling over, rather than a larger issue.
In the game, Wilson threw for just 142 yards and a touchdown. On offense, the Denver Broncos have scored 20 or more points in a game only twice this season. Overall, the team is last in the NFL in points per game at 14.4 points. The Broncos sit bottom of the AFC West with a 3 - 8 record.
The former Seattle Seahawks star is on pace for career lows in touchdown passes and completion percentage. He currently has eight touchdowns and a completion percentage of 58.9 percent. We will see if Russell Wilson can turn things around after his less-than-stellar performance versus the Carolina Panthers.
