Saints’ Pro Bowl DE ready to join New Orleans hostility vs Sean Payton: “I hope he gets booed”

Sean Payton will return to New Orleans in Week 7 of the NFL season. It will be the first time the former New Orleans Saints coach will be at the Superdome since he decided to walk away from coaching in January 2022.

As the coach of the Denver Broncos, he likely won't receive a warm reception from his former fan base. One of his former player, eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Cam Jordan already has the game marked on his calendar.

Jordan was asked by Kay Adams on "The Up and Adams Show" about facing his former coach. The Saints defensive end said he knows the loyal fans will 'boo' Payton and that he will join them in doing so.

“I hope he gets booed. If they boo, I’m going to boo with them. Because he’s going to feed off of it. Because there’s nothing you can do to Sean Payton to affect Sean Payton.”

Cam Jordan also told Kay Adams that he knows that there isn't anything that anyone can do to stop Payton, noting that he may actually thrive in that type of hostile environment.

Sean Payton sees similar traits in Bo Nix to Drew Brees

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos officially named Bo Nix the starting quarterback come Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. The Broncos drafted Nix with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and he will now try and help Denver start a new chapter.

In a recent appearance on "104.3 The Fan," Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton raved abot his rookie quarterback. So much so that he compared him to his former Super Bowl winning quarterback Drew Brees.

Payton first spoke of Nix's abilities as a pocket passer:

“You see pretty good pocket sense. Doesn’t take a lot of sacks. I think when he knows when the play’s over, time to go, and then, I think he can make plays when he’s going,” Payton said (per Sportsnaut).

Payton then spoke about sacks and said that some quarterbacks are tougher to sack. He said Drew Brees was one of those quarterbacks and he sees similar traits in Bo Nix.

“I used to say this all the time: The sack numbers are a reflection more on the quarterback than the offensive line. Brees was one of those guys, he was a tough sack. The ball came out, and I think Bo has traits like that.”- Payton said

Nix was sacked just five times in 2023 while playing for the Oregon Ducks. His similarities at the quarterback position had many speculate that the Broncos would draft him, which they eventually did.
