Sam Darnold’s teammate claims former Jets QB has been an “absolute baller” throughout his career

Sam Darnold's career has had his fair share of ups and downs. However, Minnesota Vikings fullback CJ Ham might take umbrage with that based on a statement made on "Good Morning Football." Speaking in an October 10 interview on the show, Ham claimed Darnold has been impressive "throughout his career."

"Sam is an absolute baller," Ham said (4:19). "I mean, we've been able to see that over these past five weeks and throughout his career, right? I mean, the dude has all the talent he can make every single throw. He can get out of the pocket and run, which I think a lot of people forget about."
"He can stand in the pocket and dial it up too. When you've got a quarterback who's not afraid to go out there and make a play, and step on the big stage, the opportunities are endless."

Sam Darnold won the Week 5 game against Aaron Rodgers' New York Jets. The quarterback threw for zero touchdowns, an interception, and completed under 50% of his passes.

The production in the London game was much closer in line statistically to his production with the Jets. With the Jets (2018-20), he went 13-25 and completed under 60% of his passes.

The quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings has yet to experience his first loss under Kevin O'Connell.

With a potential win against the Detroit Lions on October 20, Darnold will have roughly half as many wins with the Vikings in less than half a season than he had with the Jets in three seasons. Sam Darnold went 13-25 with the Jets, averaging about four wins per year.

With the win over his former team and Aaron Rodgers in Week 5, Darnold has now eclipsed that average, even if he loses for the rest of the season.

As teams like the 2023 Philadelphia Eagles and 2018 Cam Newton-era Carolina Panthers can express, there is always a chance this could happen to any early-season powerhouse. Will Sam Darnold's team surge through the rest of the regular season?
