Sauce Gardner explains why 'no punches were being thrown' at Jets-Cowboys joint practice

New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is known for his openness to sharing things and isn’t afraid to let his voice be heard. However, he understands when to reveal or not reveal things from the dressing room.

As the Jets prepared to welcome the Washington Commanders, many expected fighting at the joint practice. However, the session went by without any issues or fights. After the practice, Gardner disclosed why things didn’t turn chaotic, and the recent $200K fines on fighting wasn't the reason.

Before the joint practice commenced, Saleh had told reporters he was “not concerned” about the fights. However, per Gardner, the coach approached the topic differently within the locker room.

“I mean, Saleh said something to the team,” Gardner said at the post-practice presser. “I'm not going to say it. If he decides to say, he'll say it. But it's a reason y'all weren’t seeing no punches being thrown.

It was a consequence that nobody wanted to receive so that's why, that's why y'all ain't see a lot of punches being thrown.”

Sauce Gardner utilized the joint session against Jayden Daniels

At the presser after the joint practice, Sauce Gardner highlighted he likes to “go against” rookie quarterbacks. Despite that, he was impressed with the overall No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels. But that did not stop him from trolling the QB.

“We just were joking with each other. LSU, I know they talk a lot. So, when we first lined up, I was talking about, I'm like, ‘He young, he young’. I was just trolling him.”

Gardner though was left impressed with the rookie and predicts him to be “good” in the NFL. Gardner will have another opportunity to face Daniels as the Jets and the Commanders meet again on Saturday for their first preseason game.
