Seahawks' Geno Smith clowns Aaron Rodgers' Jets after 26-21 win in revenge gameĀ
Geno Smith, who was drafted by the New York Jets 10 years ago, beat Aaron Rodgers' Jets 26-21 on Sunday. Just over 10 years ago, the Jets had drafted Smith with the 39th overall pick. Cut to 2024, the Jets have Rogers, a future Hall of Famer, under center, but that wasn't enough to orchestrate a win over Smith's Seahawks.
Smith had the last laugh, going 20-of-31 for 206 yards and a touchdown as Seattle picked up its seventh win of the season, taking control of the NFC West. After the game, Smith took a shot at the Jets, posting a meme that showed a man showing up to his enemy's funeral.
Smith didn't have the best of times in the Big Apple. He had a 12-18 record as the starting quarterback, racking up 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. After bouncing around with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers, Smith eventually landed with the Seahawks, taking over from Russell Wilson when he left for Denver.
Since then, Smith has resurrected what earlier looked like a stalled career. He was crowned the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2022 and has also made two Pro Bowls as Seattle's starter. He also signed a three-year, $75 million deal in 2023, signifying the franchise's faith in him as QB1.
Week 13 loss to Geno Smith's Seahawks condemns Aaron Rodgers' Jets to historic streak
The loss to Geno Smith's Seahawks means there's no way the Jets can post a winning record this year, registering their ninth-straight losing season, the longest active in the NFL.
On Sunday afternoon, Aaron Rodgers went 21-of-39 for 185 yards, two touchdowns and an INT but couldn't come up with the goods when it mattered the most. He missed a wide-open Garrett Wilson who ran a downright filthy route on that play. A score would have put the Jets up 28-7.
Instead, Aaron Rodgers threw a pick-6, ultimately condemning the Jets to their ninth loss of the season. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich remained tight-lipped when asked whether he would consider benching the four-time NFL MVP. As things stand, all signs point to a not-so-amicable divorce between Rodgers and the Jets.
