Seahawks playoff chances: Are Seattle out of the hunt for postseason spot after loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs

The Seattle Seahawks have had a surprising season up to this point, being a contender for most of the season that everyone assumed would be lost. After trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, everyone considered the Seahawks a bottom-tier team.

That could not have been further from the truth, but their shock playoff campaign hit a major snag today with a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, led by presumptive MVP Patrick Mahomes.

The final score as 24-10 in favor of the Chiefs, as Seattle were unable to get much offense going. It's a bad time of year for teams to be going cold. The loss drops them to 7-8, which makes any playoff dream a little more far-fetched.

Has this loss finally ended their dream campaign?

Playoff scenarios for Seattle: Are the Seahawks out of the playoffs?

Fortunately for Smith and his Seahawks, the season isn't quite over. They face an uphill battle, but they're not out of it just yet. A team could very easily finish 9-8 (a record still very much obtainable by the Seahawks) and make it to the postseason in in the NFC.

The Seahawks are on the outside looking in, though. There are two playoff spots available for them, and they're behind the Washington Commanders (7-6-1) and the New York Giants (8-6-1).

Additionally, the Detroit Lions, after a loss to the Carolina Panthers, are 7-8 and in pursuit of one of those final spots. The Green Bay Packers haven't played in Week 16 but are 6-8 and have not been eliminated either.

A lot of teams are fighting for that last spot and they are all trailing the two NFC East teams. The light at the end of the tunnel hasn't gone out for the Seahawks just yet.

Seattle Seahawks' schedule after Week 15

Any losses from here on in will essentially end the playoff hopes of any of those teams not named the Commanders or Giants. Any loss for Seattle would be painful and critical.

They have two remaining opponents on the schedule: the 7-8 New York Jets at home and the 4-10 Los Angeles Rams, also at home.

If any team has the schedule to make a small run at the playoffs, it's the Seahawks.
