Sean Payton to NFC West team? Colin Cowherd reveals HC's most likely landing spot
Sean Payton has had an offseason—and almost half of an NFL season—off the sidelines. However, he might be nearing the end of his brief stay on the media circuit.
Speaking on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd claimed the former head coach's top landing spot has become plain and obvious. Here's how he put it, naming the Arizona Cardinals as the top landing spot:
"Here it is. Sean Payton, a member of Fox, tops Arizona's list as the replacement candidate."
He went on, explaining why Kliff Kingsbury's spot should be vacated for Payton:
"[Kingsbury] has never gotten Arizona into the top ten in scoring with Kyler Murray and good weapons and a decent O-line. His teams have faded at the end of his first three seasons, and now he doesn't get along greatly with his quarterback. It's time. We've seen enough of it..."
Lastly, Cowherd said that while he should be allowed to finish the season, the last game of the year is the final stop for him:
"I don't like calling for jobs. If he goes through the season, fine. It's not the end of the world. But, we know what we got here."
Sean Payton's NFL resume
In the minds of many, the head coach's resume places him at the top of the employment line heading into 2023. The almost 59-year-old head coach boasts 25 years of experience in the league and 15 years as a head coach. The coach has presided over nine seasons with at least 10 wins.
He's won a Super Bowl and spent all but one season coaching Drew Brees, who was seen by many as the "small" quarterback of that era. With Kyler Murray emerging as this generation's "small" quarterback, many feel Payton's experience could pay dividends.
Fans would agree that coaching Kyler Murray could be like coaching a combination of Taysom Hill and Drew Brees considering the quarterback has the mobility of Hill and the size of Brees. Brees is 6', and Murray is 5'10".
