Sean Payton still undecided with what to do with Zach Wilson after naming Bo Nix starter

Sean Payton, Zach Wilson and Bo Nix have spent little time together in comparison to most other head coach-quarterback rooms. As such, the three are still settling into the swing of things. Bo Nix is the Week 1 starter but the room remains in flux.

With Week 1 on the horizon, Payton met with reporters on Sunday and revealed he has not decided how to resolve the backup QB situation. According to various reporters per Pro Football Talk, Payton said he will keep fans in the loop.

“I’ll settle it and keep you guys posted."

While figuring out the backup QB situation hopefully doesn't impact the Week 1 game, it could affect the team down the line. Whoever Payton goes with between backups Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson is unlikely to change for the year. With no more backup-friendly games to play, the opportunities will be limited for either player.

Jarrett Stidham is heading into his second season with the team. Stidham has shown flashes at times but has been unable to sustain consistent production on a game-to-game basis.

In one game, Stidham will look like a franchise quarterback, and in others, like a typical backup. Meanwhile, Wilson is in the same boat. However, he has pulled off impressive throws and then followed it up with head-scratching ones.

As the Denver Broncos try to figure their way through, the Seattle Seahawks await Bo Nix on Sunday.

If Sean Payton is undecided on where to put Zach Wilson on the depth chart, there's a chance he might be willing to put him on a different one for a price. Following the preseason and having seen the backup QBs in action, some teams might be willing to change.

The Arizona Cardinals have seen what happens when Kyler Murray suffers a season-ending injury. If they want to bolster their backup plan, pairing Wilson and Jonathan Gannon might work.

The Minnesota Vikings were dealt a difficult hand as they lost J.J. McCarthy for the season. However, if Sam Darnold faceplants or runs into injury issues, Nick Mullens might be a downgrade compared to Wilson.

Either way, Sean Payton might have built a solid trade asset this preseason in addition to grooming Bo Nix. Will he cash in on Wilson?
